My media work started with me doing some filming for the hospice that support me. I did my initial filming with them in August 2011, then did some more filming for them in 2013. During this period I concentrated mainly on my writing, starting my blog and writing for charities and organisations, and being asked to speak in Parliament in November 2013 for Together for Short Lives kicked off my speaking. In early 2014 my dog Molly and I were chosen as finalists in the Friends for Life competition at Crufts, the world's biggest dog show. With this came lots of filmed work: a little film about Molly and I and our special bond, interviews about our nomination including an interview for ITV News on the 28th February 2014, and then there was the competition itself which was televised live on Channel 4 on Sunday 9th March 2014. Our videos were shown, we were all interviewed by Clare Balding, then Molly and I were announced as winners! Clare interviewed us for a second time, we did a (sort of) lap of honour and then I gave an interview backstage after our win. Following Crufts we appeared on The Alan Titchmarsh Show on Tuesday 11th March and on BBC Essex and Look East on Wednesday 12th March.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of it, I well and truly got the media "bug" and knew I wanted to develop this aspect of my career further. Due to poor health I have not had the chance to do much since, but still managed to do a recorded conversation for The British Library and BBC Radio 4's The Listening Project, a video diary for Children's Hospice Week and some filming for the Council for Disabled Children.
